So What Do You Think?

I am anxious to hear what you think about your "23 Things" experience. It has certainly generated some discussions around the office about various tools people have discovered, the amount of time it required to complete each week and where this might lead us. My experience has probably been alittle different than most, because I was already at least a little familiar with most of the tools. Of course there were still some favorite (some of the generaters & the applications) and some I'll probably never use (Avatars & Booklists). But the favorite part of my experience was hearing the discussions around the office and knowing that everyone was at least learning something new. How would you sum up your experience? Before you do Scroll down and watch the video below!

I have thoroughly enjoyed the exercise. Like you there are some applications I probably will not use, but at least I'm aware of them. I was exposed to teachertube at a conference recently, I noticed you refering to it on your blog. In summary, I have enjoyed this, I learned some, need alot more. I would be interested in doing more in this area.

This activity has been interesting and informative. I would like to have better command of the tools than I presently do. I am interested in learning more. I know the more I use the tools, the more effective I will be.

Hello there-

I am always interested in keeping up with the times and technically that is what all of this offered. In todays changing world you have two choices which is to either keep up or catch up. The only other choice is being left way behind altogether. We can't afford to catch up or be left behind as our jobs are kids.

Our kids need us to guide them and it is hard to guide if we are behind them instead of in front of them.

DOWNSIDE- TIME! All of this since it was more self-directed, tended to be on the back burner most of the time. It was time consuming to LEARN new things and then implement them. But the true problem was that my real job kept getting in the way. :) If I had to choose to spend a few minutes on working with one of the 23 things or getting required work done- WELL, that required stuff has to come first and very- very little time left over for OTHER things.

So you have it- the good, bad- and plain relaity of it all! :) But we all like a challeng so - WHAT's NEXT?

This video seems to be a great way to introduce the teachers to where we are heading with technology. I have enjoyed and look forward to learning to use what will be most beneficially and with the future of teaching. Finding the time has been difficult over the past few years to learn new tech tools. This course has helped to push me a little harder. I would like to see the summer academy to continue in order to implement more and more of what we have been exposed to in 23 Things.

Actually thought of something else-

YOU could have started your own little WIKI on this topic and then we could have on-going communication with each other about it. A way to use our learned technology!

I am amazed at all of the technology that is out there and the time people have to put into it. It was difficult to find the time and the amount of time to complete the 23 Things. For people that aren't very technology savvy, like me, it was very time consuming and a real eye opener. I am glad that I complete this activity and am now aware of what is out there.

I continue to struggle to find time to finish this. BUT regardless of the challenges of time, this has been one of the most important things I have done this year. I already knew I was "technology challenged" what I know know is that I am really in dark ages! I have had difficulty applying some of this new found knowledge to what I do on a daily basis. BUT this has forced me to face this and I will continue to work to improve my knowledge. One of the saddest things I saw in the video was that child who said they only spent 2 hours a week reading. While we can utilize technology to teach children new things and reach children who may be struggling, without basic reading and math knowledge, they will not be able to fully realize the wonders of technology.
